32 Third Graders Series: How to Know When You Need a Vacation

September 29, 2010

‘When you can’t remember the name of the student who has been sitting in front of you for the last sixty-seven days.”  Happens to me every day… is this a sign?

“When you spend five minutes trying to turn off the TV with your cell phone.”  Haven’t done that, but definitely got very upset when I couldn’t turn on the TV with the DVD remote in class.

“When you can’t remember how to spell PE.” Why is it that the simplest words are the first to disappear?  When tired or stressed I routinely forget words like “any” or “here.”  Drives me crazy and I really need a break.

“When your Secret Santa gives you Extra Strength Tylenol and you are thrilled.”  I wish, that would much more exciting than the goofy notepads or inspirational mugs.  Really how many “#1 Teacher” mugs can a person have?

“When you run around school for thirty minutes looking for the coffee mug that is in your hand.”  I think that is a weekly occurrence in my life.

“When you finish giving the spelling test, then turn around and see the entire spelling list still written on the board.”  Did that a few times in world history.  Once I left the entire outline of notes on the board and forget about it for a pop quiz.

“When you are upset because the Charlie Brown Christmas video is only twenty-seven minutes.”  Don’t lie teachers… some days you put in a video just because your brain does not function anymore and pray that it’s long enough to take up the entire period.

“When it is three in the morning and you are humming “Frosty the Snowman” for the 157th time with your eyes wide open in bed.”  Insomnia… best friend of teachers around the world.

Wow… I really think I need a vacation…  Anyone want to fly me to Europe or buy a ticket for a Caribbean cruise?  After dealing with teenagers every day, I really think I deserve it.
